Europe 9-5 USA (first to 11)
Niels Feijen 3-5 Rodney Morris
Ralf Souquet 5-2 Shane Van Boening
Mika Immonen 5-3
Jeremy Jones

EUROPE are only two points away from winning the 2008 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup.

They started the session 7-4 ahead and won two out of the three matches to gain an overall 9-5 lead as they are closing in on the magical 11-point figure.

If successful, it will be the first time Europe have ever won the competition two years running in this the 15th staging of the event.

Mika Immonen has now been involved in four winning singles or doubles matches and is a strong contender to claim the Most Valuable Player award after his latest triumph - a 5-3 win over Jeremy Jones.

"I think we're going to sleep better than the Americans," said Immonen. "We just have to keep fighting, stay humble and do what we have done all year - winning matches.

"One year I won four out of five matches and was Most Valuable Player and I think me and Ralf are fighting for the MVP. Hopefully we can win the cup then we will see who is the MVP.

"The momentum has been changing and we're fighting hard and we're mentally prepared."

The Saturday evening session appeared to be a crucial one for USA and they made a bright start as Rodney Morris, the only American to not have been involved in a winning singles or doubles match, sealed a 5-3 victory over Niels Feijen.

But any momentum America were trying to build came to a halt in the second match as The Kaiser Ralf Souquet overcame Shane Van Boening 5-2.

Further sessions will take place on Sunday afternoon and, if needed, on Sunday evening.

The Sunday afternoon session starts at 2pm local time (1pm UK time) and features a doubles match, a singles match then another doubles match.

If the American team are still alive then a maximum of four singles matches will be played to see who will be the Mosconi Cup winners.
